Shri Jairambhai Patel Institute Of Business Management & Computer Applications

Genesis

The Genesis of the Institute can be traced back to the early 1990's when late Shri Jairambhai A Patel, took over as Chairman of the Gujarat State Cooperative Bank Ltd. Ahmedabad. Out of his frequent interaction with the various cooperative organizations in India in general and Maharashtra State in particular, an idea emerged in his mind that a center of excellence in management education ought to be established by the state cooperative bank in Gujarat, whose standards of infrastructure and education are comparable to those of its counterparts in the advanced countries. The transformation of this idea into a practical proposition took place in 1992 when the Gujarat State Cooperative Bank ltd and the District Cooperative Banks of the Gujarat State contributed a fund of Rs.30 Crores for setting up an institute of a national repute at Capital City of Gandhinagar for promotion of quality management education.

Considering the diverge nature of working and activities of the parent body of the Institute i.e. the Gujarat State Cooperative Bank ltd., it has accorded the independent status to the Institute to provide full autonomy in the functioning and administration of educational institute. A milestone in the evolution of the Institute was the registration of “National Institute of Cooperative Management Society” under the Societies Registration Act as well as Indian Trust Act in 1995. Shri Jairambhai A Patel, then the Chairman of the Gujarat State Cooperative Bank ltd. was elected the first president of the Society and Mr. P S Vyas was appointed as its Managing Trustee.

The task of conceiving and formulating the idea of commencing the professional courses was entrusted to the managing council consisting of a group of eminent academicians, industrialists, businessmen & professionals. These professionals started transformation of the dream into reality at a galloping pace. On behalf of the managing council Dr M N Desai, Former Vice Chancellor of Gujarat University, M.S. University of Baroda and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University, has become the main instrument in commencing the postgraduate programmes at NICM Gandhinagar. Dr M N Desai is working as a Hon. Secretary of Managing council for postgraduate programmes and guides the management for smooth functioning of the Institute. The Institute has got an approval from the All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi and affiliation from Gujarat University for conducting two years full time MBA programme in 1999 and three years MCA programme in 2001.
