MBA - Admission Process

Government of Gujarat has incorporated GCET committee (Gujarat Common Entrance Test), a centralized body for conducting admission process for two years full time admission to Master of Business Administration program (MBA) for all Universities and their affiliated Institutions that conduct AICTE approved MBA Programs in Gujarat State. The selection process consists of a Written Test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GD/PI) and based on the merit scored in the entrance test and GD/PI, merit list is prepared by GCET Committee. The present batch of 60 students (2006-08) at NICM has been selected from an applicant pool of over 15,000 students from entire Gujarat State who has under gone admission process of GCET. The ratio of final selection from the total number of applicants is an impressive 1:140, and the NICM gets the pool of top 5 % of the total applicants. The prime objective of conducting centralized test and admission to MBA is to bring uniformity in admission process and to avoid duplication of efforts so as to facilitate the students and their parents. Relevant details and guidelines about GCET are as below.

The selection process consists of a Written Test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GD/PI) and based on the merit scored in the entrance test and GD/PI, merit list is prepared by GCET Committee. The present batch of 60 students (2006-08) at NICM has been selected from an applicant pool of over 15,000 students from entire It is mandatory for all Universities in Gujarat and its affiliated colleges to make admission to the postgraduate MBA programme only to the candidates who have appeared in GCET. Thus, candidates aspiring to get admission to MBA in any of the Universities Department or its affiliated colleges in the state, its mandatory for them to appear for GCET. Director, Technical Education acts as a convener to the centralized entrance test committee. Wherever differences of interpretation arise, decision of Department of Higher and Technical Education, Gujarat State will be considered final and binding. If the private unaided institutions surrender their sanctioned seats, then the GCET Committee also fills such seats on behalf of the respective institute. NICM has surrendered its all the seats of MBA programme to the GCET committee and therefore, all the seats at NICM are filled by the GCET Committee on merit only.

Selection Basis

Selection for admission to Two Years Full Time MBA at NICM will be made by GCET admission committee, on merit basis only. Determination of merit for admission to MBA will be based on written test, group discussion and personal interview.

Selection Process

The interested candidates are required to submit their application forms complete in all respects to the offices mentioned for sale of application forms before the expiry of the last hour and date prescribed. The candidate is required to submit the application form at the centre where he/she has opted to appear for the written test, GD and PI.

The candidates will have option to choose the center for Written Test, GD and PI for GCET/MBA from amongst the available centers.The Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GCET / MBA) will be conducted on the date and time prescribed in the form.

A candidate will have to produce the following original documents with certified copy before presenting himself/herself for counseling and admission at the final stage.

  1. S.S.C. and H.S.C. Certificates or Certificates of having passed equivalent examinations.
  2. Statement of Marks for S.S.C. and H.S.C. Examinations (or equivalent Examination)
  3. Statement of Marks for the Bachelor degree examination (i.e. qualifying Degree Examinations) Statement of Marks for S.S.C. and H.S.C. Examinations (or equivalent Examination)
  4. Caste Certificate (if applicable)
  5. Non Creamy layer certificate (if applicable)

NOTE: Procedure and rules mentioned above are generic and subject to change from time to time in accordance with State Government Policy for Two Years Full Time MBA Programme.

Fee Structure

A State level Committee for fixation of Fees for MBA self financed institutions has been constituted by Govt. of Gujarat in consultation with AICTE, New Delhi. The fees approved by the committee for academic sessions beginning in that year will apply for all institutions in Gujarat State. The fees decided by Hon. Justice R.J. Shah Fee determination committee for the MBA programme for academic year 2008-2009 onwards are Rs. 47,000/ p.a.
